Wrong MRI: family takes case to healthcare commission

FAISALABAD: The father of a minor patient, who was issued a wrong MRI report by a private hospital of Faisalabad, has moved the case to the Punjab Healthcare Commission for action against the hospital.

Imran, the father of one-year-old Qasim, said an inquiry by the deputy commissioner (DC) had found on March 3 the Aziz Fatima Hospital, Gulistan Colony, guilty of issuing the wrong report. The hospital administration gave Rs300,000 to Imran for the child treatment.

Mr Imran said he would pursue the case for putting the lives of his son and other man, whose report was given to him, in danger.

Imran said he had got the test done from the hospital on the prescription of a pediatrician in December where his son was diagnosed with having brain tumor.

The doctor began treatment after the MRI report but found no sign of recovery after a month.

Another MRI conducted by the Shaukat Khanum Lab indicated Qasim had no sign of brain tumor.

Imran says the condition of his son had deteriorated because of his treatment on a fake report.

He said he had asked the DC to press the hospital administration to find the other man, whose report had been replaced with, and furnish him the actual MRI report so that he could start his treatment.

DC Salman Ghani said the case had been probed by the senior doctors and officials of the health department and now the case had been sent to the commission for further action. He said the hospital administration had also admitted their mistake.

Mr Ghani said the hospital administration had given Rs300,000 to Imran for the treatment of his son and the amount was not part of any patch-up. Naeem Raja, hospital`s manager admin and human resource, said the hospital management did not want to comment.
