Sindh Public Service Commission chairperson’s appointment challenged

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued on Monday notices to the concerned provincial authorities on a petition challenging the appointment of the incumbent chairperson of the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) in alleged violation of the service rules.

The appointment of the chairperson, Noor Muhammad Jadmani, was challenged by a lawyer, Ibrahim Abro.

He argued that under the service rules it was mandatory for the officer, who is to be appointed as SPSC chairperson, to have five years experiencing serving on a 20-grade post. However, he claimed that the incumbent was a diplomat who did not have required experience.
The petitioner argued that appointment of Noor Muhammad Jadmani on the chairperson’s post without the required experience was a violation of the service rules as well constitutional provisions. He pleaded to declare his appointment as illegal, a violation of the service rules and Constitution and null and void.

The petitioner pleaded to the court to order the provincial authorities to remove the inexperienced person from the important post and appoint a competent and eligible officer.

After hearing initial arguments, the bench issued notices to the provincial chief secretary, SPSC chairperson and others to file their comments by August 21.
