On 4 December 2019, the Pakistan Center of Legal Research and Publication held a Panel Discussion on ‘The Challenges of Academic Legal Writing in Pakistan’. The panel comprised of the Chief Editor of the Pakistan Law Review, Professor Tasneem Kausar, the Chief Editor of the LUMS Law Journal, Dr. Zubair Abbast, the Director of UMT School of Law and Policy, Dr. Usman Hameed and a former Sub-Editor of the UCL Human Rights Journal, Miss Sevim Sadaat.
The discussion focused on the importance of legal writing. The panellists pointed out that the new LL.B. five year programme contains research modules and these can be usefully employed to create a culture of academic legal writing. The speakers also suggested ways to increase the relevance and impact of academic legal writing in Pakistan.
After the panel discussion, Volume 10 of the Pakistan Law Review was officially presented to the authors and the public. Professor Humayoun Ihsan, Dean of Pakistan College of Law, presented shields to the panellists, while complimentary copies of the PLR were given to the authors. The event was a great success. One of the panellists highlighted that it is the first time in Pakistan that a panel discussion among chief editors of law journals has taken place. PCLRP and Pakistan College of Law are proud for this milestone achievement in the history of academic legal writing in the country.
