No more CNICs will be blocked now: Nisar

PESHAWAR: Interior Minister Chaudhy Nisar said on Saturday that the computerised national identity cards (CNICs) of individuals with missing family data would not be blocked from now on and they would be issued notices instead.

During a meeting with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra in Peshawar, Nisar said 179,000 CNICS were being unblocked for 60 days. However, 35,085 CNICs were still being kept blocked and 174,184 had been verified.

He added that these people would be able to have their cards unblocked permanently if they produced their identity cards issued before 1978, proof of property ownership or some other document that could help verify their identity or evidence of a family member serving in a government department before 1990.

Governor Jhagra highlighted the pace of progress of the ongoing developmental projects and the law and order situation in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata). He asked Nisar to play a more effective role in addressing the issue of blocked CNICs and also welcomed the strategy of issuing new national identity cards.

Also attending the meeting held at the Governor’s House were the Prime Minister’s adviser and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Fata parliamentary leader in the National Assembly Amir Muqam, PML-N K-P Assembly parliamentary leader Haji Shahji Gul Afridi, Sardar Aurangzeb Nalotha and Pir Sabir Shah.

Earlier, a passing-out parade of 1,256 recruits of the Frontier Corps was held at the Scouts Training Academy Warsak in which the interior minister was the chief guest. Addressing the participants, Nisar congratulated the new recruits and said under the National Action Plan, the importance of the Frontier Cops had increased even further.
